The Department of Asian and Asian American Studies (AAAS) at Stony Brook University, a flagship campus of the State University of New York system, seeks to appoint a full-time Lecturer in Hindi. The initial appointment, starting beginning of Fall semester 2025, is for two years, with the possibility of renewal. The successful applicant will be expected to teach Hindi language courses at all levels, for both heritage and non-heritage students, with the possibility of teaching courses in literature or linguistics. They will develop curricular and teaching materials, contribute to development of programs in teaching Hindi as a second language, conduct placement tests, train and supervise teaching assistants, and perform departmental committee service. They will be expected to work in close coordination with and contribute to the development of the Mattoo Center for India Studies.

Applicants must have a Master’s degree (foreign or higher equivalent) in Hindi language, linguistics, literature, or related area. Applicants must have native or near-native proficiency in both spoken and written Hindi, and fluency in both spoken and written English. Applicants must have at least two years of experience teaching Hindi as a second/foreign language or heritage language at the college or university level. A PhD or ABD (or foreign equivalent) in Hindi language, linguistics, literature, or related area. Familiarity with the use of modern technology in language teaching
