The Department of Philosophy at Ashoka University (https://www.ashoka.edu.in/department/department-of-philosophy/) invites applications for two positions, each at either the Assistant (tenure-track) or Associate Professor (tenured) level. Faculty are expected to teach 2 courses each semester and advise undergraduate students. The Department may start a PhD program in the near future, and candidates interested in potentially helping to spearhead the effort are encouraged. Ashoka offers attractive terms of remuneration, paid research leave, and generous funds for research and conference travel. Qualifications Successful candidates for the position will have strong research profiles. Those working on Indian philosophy, philosophy of science, and topics related to Ashoka’s Philosophy and Computer Science interdisciplinary major (e.g. computability, AI, etc.) are especially encouraged to apply. AOS open, open AOC, but we expect at least one of the two open positions to be filled by a specialist in Indian philosophy. Candidates should have a PhD by the beginning of the appointment. About Ashoka The Philosophy Department at Ashoka University offers a variety of courses in all the major areas of philosophy. The department offers both a major and a minor and takes part in three interdisciplinary majors: (1) Politics, Philosophy, and Economics, (2) Philosophy and Computer Science, and (3) Psychology and Philosophy. Despite Ashoka’s very short history, many of Ashoka philosophy graduates have gone on to exciting careers in industry and NGOs and to continue their academic studies at a variety of graduate programs including USC, Oxford, Pitt HPS, Tufts, Amherst, and Simon Fraser University. Founded in 2014, Ashoka University is a rapidly growing private university dedicated to providing students with an innovative interdisciplinary liberal arts education and an inclusive place to research, think deeply and critically, and express themselves creatively.
