Bruno A. VILELA DA SILVA
PhD Candidate, EPHE, ED 472
Biography
My academic experience is marked firstly by a bachelor’s (Universidade do Minho, Braga) and a master’s (Université Paris-Sorbonne, Paris) in Philosophy. The Master’s degree in History of Philosophy, Metaphysics and Phenomenology was concluded with a Master’s thesis dealing with the relationship between Buddhi and Puruṣa in the Sāṃkhya school.
I accomplished a second bachelor’s in Indian Studies (Université Sorbonne Nouvelle, Paris) and a second Master’s in Asian Studies (École Pratique des Hautes Études, Paris). The second Master’s thesis was dedicated to the presence of Yoga techniques and teachings in the Niśvāsatattvasaṃhitā.
I am now pursuing a PhD degree at EPHE, under the supervision of Prof. Judit Törzsök and Prof. Dominic Goodall. The PhD project consists of a critical edition of a Śaiva-āgama called Kālottaratantra. Following my academic experiences, I tend to approach this work both from a philological and philosophical methodology.
I wish to build my research profile by focusing on the historical and ideological relations between Yoga, Sāṃkhya and Tantra. Furthermore, I consider that the edition and publication of all primary sources not yet critically edited are of the utmost urgency since they allow clear progress in our research field.
