The Religious Philosophy of Prajñākaragupta and Yamāri
Third International Workshop
September 16-18, 2024, Paris
Organizers : Shinya MORIYAMA (Shinshu University), Vincent ELTSCHINGER (EPHE-PSL), Isabelle RATIÉ (USN, IUF)
This workshop aims to explore the rich and intricate arguments of Prajñākaragupta concerning Buddhist doctrines of the four Nobles’ truths along with their related epistemological and logical issues, relying on Yamāri’s sub-commentary, whose Sanskrit original was recently discovered and is presently edited by Eli Franco and Hiroko Matsuoka.
As part of the JSPS project, we have successfully conducted two international workshops previously, hosted at Hokkaido University in Sapporo in 2022 and at the Austrian Academy of Science in Vienna in 2023. The upcoming workshop consists of two distinct parts: one focused on reading PVA with Yamāri’s sub-commentary and another dedicated to research presentations on Buddhist epistemology and logic.
