The Department of Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici
dell’Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia) invites applications for a fellowship in: “Wine culture in Gandhara:
historical-lexical research in Greek and Latin sources”, Academic discipline: L-ANT/02 Greek History, LOR/16 Indian and Central Asian archaeology and art history, L-OR/18 Indology and Tibetology, tutor prof.
Claudia Antonetti, within the project SPIN 2021 “Social, ritual and ceremonial use of wine in the Gandharan
area, from the Achaemenids to the Kushans” – P.I. prof. Claudia Antonetti – CUP: H75F21001820005.
The fellowship is intended to provide the successful candidate with the opportunity to pursue his/her own
research while benefiting from the range of expertise at Università Ca’ Foscari Venezia.

Abstract

A study in the long period, from Achaemenid to Kushan rule (VI BC-III AD), of the changes, overlapping and
métissage of cultures in the Gandharan area through the spectrum of the food culture (here specifically, of
wine) in a multicultural perspective.
Who can apply
Prospective candidates are expected to hold:
– PhD in the historical-linguistic field (ancient languages and civilizations);
– suitable professional scientific curriculum;
– certified specific knowledge: excellent Ancient Greek and Latin.

Ca’ Foscari encourages applications from researchers with positive evaluation in all the criteria in individual
proposals such as Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions – Individual Fellowships/ERC Starting Grants/FIRB
(Italian Fund for basic research investments)/SIR (Scientific Young Independence Research) or similar.
Researchers having successfully completed Marie Skłodowska Curie Actions – Individual Fellowships/ERC
Starting Grants/FIRB (Italian Fund for basic research investments)/SIR (Scientific Young Independence
Research) or similar funded projects are warmly encouraged to apply.
Duration of contract: 12 months (approximately starting: 1
st April 2022).
Stipend: The research fellowship total amount is 19.367,00 Euros, including taxes and social charges.
Deadline for submission of applications: 10th March 2022, h. 12.00 noon (Italian time)
