Call for applications – Postdoctoral fellowships at the Ghent Centre for Buddhist Studies
The Ghent Centre for Buddhist Studies (www.cbs.ugent.be ), located at Ghent University, Belgium, is seeking candidates for postdoctoral fellowships (for those with a PhD from anywhere in the world). The Centre’s particular strengths are Indian, Chinese, and Japanese Buddhism, broadly defined. Candidates do not apply to the university itself, but instead use the portal of the Flemish Research Foundation (FWO) to apply for a postdoctoral fellowship. These prestigious fellowships represent international competitions within a broad number of fields spanning the humanities and sciences. A number of successful applicants have submitted Buddhist Studies projects. Funding is up to 3 years for postdoctoral fellows (with a renewal application possible). Administrative and teaching duties are minimal. Strong applications that are unsuccessful in obtaining FWO funding will also be reviewed by the Special Research Fund (BOF) of Ghent University proper.
The next application cycle opens on September 21, 2022 with a deadline of Dec 1, 2022. After the initial deadline, positively reviewed applicants are invited to participate in an interview process in the spring. Results are announced in June 2023. Due to the rigor of the application process, we wish to stress the importance of connecting early with us. The application is lengthy and demands greater detail than many other postdoctoral applications, but if you are interested we can potentially help navigate it more efficiently. We encourage anyone interested in applying to contact the director of the Centre, Ann Heirman (ann.heirman@ugent.be).
