The Faculty of Arts of the University of Lausanne invites applications for a full-time Tenure Track Assistant Professor at the rank of Associate Professor in South Asian Studies in the Department of Slavic and South Asian Languages and Civilizations.

Expected start date in position : August 1, 2023
Contract length* : Two-year contract, renewable 2 x 2 years, max 6 years
Activity rate : 100%
Workplace : Lausanne-Dorigny

* The person appointed tenure track assistant professor is engaged for a two-year term, renewable twice on the proposal of the Dean’s office. An evaluation procedure is initiated in principle at the end of the 8th semester, ie at the beginning of the third two-year term. At the end of this procedure, the Faculty proposes (or not) to UNIL management the appointment to the rank of Associate Professor.

Your responsibilities

Teaching load of 4 hours per week (BA or MA level seminars).
Supervision of students, support for exams.
Individual research.
Participation in the research activities and administration of the Section.
In addition to contributing to the course offerings and activities of the department and the Faculty of Arts, candidates are expected to collaborate with the Faculty of Theology and Religious Studies (FTSR).
Applicants are also expected to engage in projects of interest for the general public.

Your qualifications

Doctor of Arts.
A specialization in South Asian Studies relating to the history of Hinduism (medieval and modern periods) and Hindi language and literature is required.
Applicants are required to have expertise in the history of India, knowledge of relevant languages, and significant experience in research and teaching.
